COVID-19 Makeup Department response.

Hey everyone!

I wanted to take a quick minute to talk about something important, the hot button topic, COVID-19.

Here at Kay D Artistry, keeping you, our client, healthy and safe. Providing a cleansafe environment for you and your service is my #1 priority.

HAIR:

All hair services will be conducted in the same manner as always, with the addition of wearing a mask. While following Colorado state mandates, both the client and the stylist will wear a mask at all times.

MAKEUP:

[[Edit 06/01/2020:]] Full makeup services are permitted as of June 1, 2020. A face shield and mask are required to be worn by artist for each client. The client having their makeup done is not required to wear a mask for the duration of their appointment.

THE GOOD, GOOD:

Hair and makeup artists are required by law to be aware of their sanitation and infection control practices at all times. My personal makeup and hair kits and the workspace have always been

STANDARD HYGIENE PRACTICES

  • Cleaning every surface using soap and water frequently then disinfect all surfaces tables, mats, kits and chairs before setting up our work station.

  • Providing our work surfaces and light to ensure that all surfaces are cleaned and disinfected between each client at the start and end of each day.

  • Disinfect all bags on the inside and outside as well as all cases, handles, and wheels.

  • Using and carrying disinfectants that are EPA - register and labeled as a bacterial, virucidal and fungicidal.

  • Carrying disinfectant for immersion tools that are mixed daily and replaced sooner if becomes contaminated throughout the work day.

  • Washing hands, and wrist with warm soapy water for 30 seconds before beginning each service, in additional to using hand sanitizer.

  • Only using new, clean brushes that have been washed with a disinfectant soap on each and every client.

  • Keeping all applicators, in covered containers when not in use.

  • All eyeliners and lipliners are sanitized and disinfected before and after each use.

  • Never double-dip our brush directly into beauty products.

  • Always scraping, scooping, and dipping products to a clean, metal palette or paper palette.

  • Never applying mascara, lipstick or gloss on clients right out of the tube unless we’re giving you the product afterwards to keep.

  • When applying mascara, lipstick or gloss, I will always use new, disposable wands for each application.  

  • Disinfected items are stored in a closed, dry labelled storage container, making sure that nothing is in the container but clean, disinfected items.

  • Regularly clean surface objects with a disposable disinfectant, as well as objects that are frequently used, such as phones, keyboards, toilets, door handles, tables, counter tops, and cabinets.

  • Separating all makeup products for individual talent. Each talent will have a personal, separate, and labeled bag.

  • Sanitizing all products and kit surfaces with 70% alcohol in between each talent.

  • In use brushes will be kept reusable labeled brush bags.

  • Using hand sanitizer between on-set touch ups.

NEW HYGIENE PRACTICES IN RESPONSE TO COVID -19

  • Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) during application, and touch-ups including a face shield and face mask.

  • Clients are pre-screened before appointment with a touches thermometer.

  • Limiting conversations between artists and talent during services to avoid unnecessary respiratory droplets. Conversations can be had before or after services at a distance.

  • Extra time will be requested for processing multiple talent to ensure sufficient cleaning of surfaces and station between processing.

  • Touch-ups will be limited and PPE will be worn.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS TAKEN OFF SET

  • Maintaining short fingernails to avoid bacteria collection

  • Wearing custom made face masks while in public spaces.

  • Minimal contact with people outside of the workplace.

  • Limiting travel to within the local area.

This is a working document subject to modification based on OSHA, and CDC for reopening.
